The field of data processing incorporates areas of study such as information technology, business administration and computer systems. Associate and bachelor's degree programs qualify graduates for entry-level positions in data processing, while the master's and doctoral degree programs prepare candidates for managerial roles. The three largest schools with data processing degree options are the College of Southern Nevada, Pima Community College and University of Cincinnati.

Data Processing Degree Programs

Associate in Applied Science in Computer Information Technology and Systems Management

In a 2-year associate degree program, students learn how to organize and enter information into computer systems in an organized fashion. Prerequisites include a basic understanding of computer functions such as word processing and accessing the Internet. Graduates are qualified to hold entry-level positions in the information processing field, such as data analyst, office manager or administrative assistant.

Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management

Bachelor's degree programs in this field combine information technology with business acumen. Scholars learn to use computer software to design, organize and maintain data systems in the most optimal way for companies. Though heavy in science, math and experiential technology elements, this curriculum is balanced by general education in the liberal arts, and can be completed in four years.

Master of Science in Database Management

Graduate students are able to quickly access and change large batches of information through data warehousing and mining strategy. Those who complete the master's degree program typically go on to become database managers and handle all data processing and computer science information on behalf of an organization.

Doctor of Management Information Systems

Doctoral candidates study new and advanced information management technology and research practical and theoretical applications of these innovations. Graduates usually obtain management positions within large technology-oriented organizations, where they are tasked with overseeing entire information technology departments including personnel and processes. They are qualified to teach others both in the workplace and a formal classroom setting. Consultation is also a popular route for doctorate-holders.
